Web Feeds made simpler

The Web Feed Generator at http://www.metacentric.net/ has lived up to its slogan "Web Feeds made easy" by changing to a flat rate price for the service. The new fixed rate is expected to make it clear that the service is the most cost effective way adopt news feed technology.

Web Feed Generator service charges have been simplified to a single standard rate. The base rate for the service remains at £0.70 GBP per day, which amounts to £21.00 GBP over 30 days. But now there is no price increment when demand for customers' news feeds gets very high.

Metacentric managing director Philip Shaw said: "Our slogan is 'Web Feeds made easy', but feedback showed our price structure was the most difficult part of the package."

He continued: "Now customers can promote their news feeds as heavily as they wish without concern that demand might push them into a higher price band." The flat rate price means that customers can clearly evaluate costs and benefits.

Mr Shaw has researched Web Feed adoption. He believes there are many Web site owners who appreciate the benefits of news feeds but find it difficult to introduce new technology. The Web Feed Generator creates news feeds from standard HTML Web pages, so there are no major investment costs.

Philip Shaw said: "It is ironic that our price structure was considered more complex than the Web Feed Generator system itself." He added: "I prefer to see it as a compliment to our generally jargon-free approach."

Notes for editors

Metacentric Internet Limited is a British company based in Norwich, England. A media kit with high resolution graphics, illustrations, screen shots and further background information is available at http://www.metacentric.net/about/MediaKit.jsp

News feed technology has been adopted by commercial Internet services like Amazon and PC World, and traditional news publishers like the BBC and Reuters. Feed readers are built in to many Web browsers and email programs, including the forthcoming version of Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Feed readers check news feeds while you are looking at other Web sites or reading your email and alert you to new items. News feeds use a plain text format, so cannot carry the viruses and worms that have made people so suspicious of email notification. Each news item includes summary text and a link back to the Web site to read the "full story".
