Finding feeds with auto-discovery

You may have seen news feed links on Web sites without realising it. They can be presented as simple text links, as labelled buttons and auto-discovery links. Any combination of all three can be used to promote your news feed.

Text links

A simple text link is an easy way to include a pointer to a news feed in the normal flow of text. Text links can also be included in navigation menus or page footers. The Web Feed Generator creates copy-and-paste link markup for your news feed.

Button links

News feed button link You may have seen small orange buttons labelled "RSS" or "XML" on Web sites. These attention-grabbing icons are news feed links and are widely recognised by people who use them.

We think it is clearer to label our buttons "NEWS FEED", and the Web Feed Generator creates all the HTML you need to add them to your Web page.

Auto-discovery links

News feed auto-discovery in the Opera Web browser, illustration Auto-discovery links help get your feed noticed and can be used together with text or button links. These links use special HTML attributes to alert Web browsers to your news feed. Some news feed search engines use these links to find your feed too.

Browser-friendly preview

Browser-friendly news feed styling in the Opera Web browser When standard news feed links are opened in a Web browser, they display the news feed code in a single, unreadable stream of text, which can be quite confusing and put off further interest. The Web Feed Generator is designed to display text in a simple news preview style, which we think is a more friendly way to attract subscribers.

These screen shots show our news preview styling in three popular Web browsers:
