Q:How should I choose a password?

A: Your password should be difficult for anyone else to guess, but simple enough to type without error. To make sure you do not use plain dictionary words, you must use at least one number in your password, and it must be at least 6 characters long.

Q:How do I choose a user name?

A: You can use your real name for your Metacentric user name, but it would be better to use a less obvious word or phrase. Your user name is part of your account login, so it should be difficult to guess. As a basic safeguard, we will check your user name is at least 6 characters long.

Q:What is the "repeat" field for?

A: The Metacentric Web site encrypts your password so nobody but you knows what it is. That's why it's important the password you type is what you think it is. By re-typing your password, we can compare them without exposing what you typed.

Q:Someone already has my user name!

A: The Metacentric Web site does not control the user names people may have, they are granted on a first come, first served basis. If someone else has registered the user name you wanted, you will have to choose a different one. You could try adding a number to your first choice or put a space between the words.

Q:My login has been blocked!

A: The Metacentric Web site has checks in place to prevent people from guessing customers' user names and passwords by trial and error. If you make too many mistakes typing your login, you will be prevented from trying again as a security precaution. This is an inconvenience for genuine customers, but we think it is a reasonable trade-off to help protect the security of your account.

If you have been blocked, the only way to clear this restriction is to contact Metacentric customer support to let us know about the problem. We will try to clear the restriction as soon as we can.

Q:I've forgotten my login!

A: This is a surprisingly common problem, use our lost login help page to get a reminder. This screen lets you use your user name or registered email address to get a reminder of either, or use both to generate a new password.

Reminders are only sent to registered email addresses and new passwords must be activated with a special email key, so nobody can change your password without your knowledge.

Please note that Metacentric staff do not know your password. All customer passwords are encrypted in a way that cannot be reversed; when you type your login it is encrypted and matched against the stored copy.
