What is a virtual path?

This screen is part of a Web Feed Reference section for the Web Feed Generator. Please ask us if you cannot find the answer to your question.

A virtual path is the part that follows the domain name in a Web address. Web addresses are like the way we organise files and folders on a computer. Each forward slash after the domain name indicates a new directory. The part that follows the slash represents another directory or file.

The nesting of folders and files on a Web site does not necessarily match those on the server, which is why we call them "virtual" directories, and they make a virtual path to a Web page.
